There are some great fields for Rangiora Classic Day
While the Rangiora Classic is the feature and turns out the usual good field, the supporting races are also very good and feature a number of stable runners.
The Classic itself is a small but strong line-up, including New Zealand Cup winner The Fixer. Our stable are represented in the race by Letspendanitetogetha and Alta Orlando. Both horses have been competitive against the best this season, but errors from the pair proved costly in last week's Easter Cup. Today against the powerful All Stars team, they will need to be on their best behaviour, but over the 2600m and with a strong pace expected, can run into the minor placings. The race looks likely to be dominated by The Fixer, Chase Auckland and Ashley Locaz, with A G's Whitesocks back to something resembling his best form now also.
The day for the stable starts off in Race Two with Valloria taking on amongst others, the Dominion winner Marcoola. Valloria has been in good form of late with a strong pair of second placings, before a miss last time. He is well drawn today and can certainly get a slice of this if he runs up to his best. Marcoola will be a very short-priced favourite.
Franco Niven and Heisenberg appear two of the best chances in Race Four. Heisenberg comes out of last week's derby with a nice 6th after doing work in the running. He looks very well placed here from the draw. Franco Niven produced his best run yet in winning on derby night. While yet to face the quality of some of these, he is a horse on the up and won't be far away either. Heisenberg with the more experience gets the nod on this occasion. Grand Chico may be the hardest to beat.
Kotare Yolande is next up in Race Six. She had been in good form until the last start miss at Addington. On that occasion she went around and led but the off track after a lot of rain may have tripped her up. She is much better than that. Today she cops an inside draw on the second line, which may not be the worst draw. She is certainly up to most of these on ability and is still an eachway hope if she got the run to suit.
Spot On and Onedin Reign appear two very good chances in Race Nine, in what is one of the day's most even line-ups. Providing both horses are able to step early, then their best form has the pair right in this. They are both eachway chances at nice odds in a race likely to be dominated on the tote by Smokin By.
The last runner today is the ever conistent Johnny White. He is drawn to get a soft run on the markers. Look for him to be powering home should the gaps open. He is another eachway hope on the day.
