Heisenberg too strong in the Kotare Downs
Competitive against the best three year olds all season, Heisenberg proved too strong in yesterday's Kotare Downs Stakes, with stablemate Franco Niven a strong third.
Driven hard off the gate to lead early, Heisenberg occupied a favoured lead spot throughout, while Franco Niven was well positioned three back the inside. Off the back the last time, John really put the pressure on the chasers with trailler Zinny Mach the first under pressure and breeze horse Grand Chico which looked like it was under pressure also. However, it would be Grand Chico that dug deep and over the last 100m, he came with a sustained run to get close, but ultimately he came up short by a nose at the line. Franco Niven ran on strongly for third once clear.
This was Heisenberg's third win from 18 starts and takes his stake-earnings to over the $80,000 mark for owners Ross and Angela Gordon. He has done a good job this season and has always looked a horse that would get better still with age. Franco Niven's run for third also had merit, running on strongly in the straight once clear of a pocket.
The other winner on the day was Onedin Reign for Tim Williams in Race Nine, one of three winners on the day for Williams. After stepping well from her 20m handicap, Onedin Reign was in front by the 2100m, with stablemate Spot On, also well away, three back the inner. A good staying mare, Onedin Reign always looked to travel well in front and off the back the last time was travelling aswell as any. After kicking two lengths clear on the turn, she held too well for Nearis Green - trail and the late finisher out wide in Mikey Maguire. Spot On battled strongly for 4th.
In other stable runners on the day:
Valloria - A good third in the trotters free-for-all behind Didjabringthebeers.
Kotare Yolande - Well back after leading for the last mile in the race won by Bubbled Up.
Letspendanitetogetha - 6th and Alta Orlando - 8th - in the feature the Rangiora Classic won by A G's White Socks
Johnny White - well back in the last behind Bringitonhome
