John heads south today with promising pair
Following a successful Friday night at Addington where he picked up another couple of wins, John heads south today to Winton. He has two promising three year olds that will step out, in Need You Now - Race Three and Tyron's Bit Of Lemon - Race Four.
While the possibility exists later in the season for southern feature races, John said that this is not the motivation for heading south today.
"No, not really. It's more about giving them that experience away from home and the stakes are very good with $11,000 up for each race."
John has a healthy regard for the pair and their progress to date.
"They are definitely both nice horses and I would think that they should be very competitive on what we have seen from then at home and at the trials."
Need You Now had the one start back in February and ran a nice 4th behind the stable's top filly Spellbound on that occasion. A half sister to the well performed Billy Badger and Stars Tonight, Need You Now is raced by the Woodlands Partnership No 2, All Black Captain Kieran Reed and former All Black Andy Ellis.
In her one trial this time in at Rangiora, Need You Now led from today's draw and proved much too strong without being driven out in the straight. Her toughest opposition today may well come from the horse drawn inside her, a debutante named Kickupyaheels. A four year old mare, she impressed many good judges in her recent trial win.
One race later and it is the turn of Tyron's Bit Of Lemon for the Neumanns. A 1.55 mile winner back in February he has been given some time to mature and comes into today's race on the back of a very good trial win two weeks ago. On that occasion he led throughout and held strongly under his own steam to the line. He looks very well placed here and is set to start at cramped odds on the tote.
