Spellbound back and looking for a spot in Sires Stakes final

Spellbound back and looking for a spot in Sires Stakes final

Spellbound proved herself one of the best of her age as a three year old last season. She is back tonight at Addington in a Sires Stakes heat and looking to book herself an early entry into the final.

The winner of three of her five starts last season, Spellbound was a last start second behind Sweet On Me in the Harness Jewels at the start of June. The pride and joy for the Westview Racing No 19 syndicate and the Witches of Westview No 2 syndicate, Spellbound was unplaced in her only workout behind the unbeaten colt One Change. While John was happy enough with her run on that occasion, he has been very impressed with everything that she has done since then.

"She's really come on since then and I don't think missing last week at the workouts because of the track has really affected her."

"The draw will make it a bit tricky, especially with the favourite (Amazing Dream), drawn inside us."

Only a little bit better placed from the draw tonight is the stablemate Need You Now. She has done a nice job in her three runs this season with the two wins and a second. At her last start in the Nuggets final down south, she had to do it tough parked, but never shirked on her task, sticking on for a brave second behind race rival tonight in Plutonium Lady. Like Spellbound, she will need luck, but is sure to be there at the business end.

While there will be further chances to qualify for the final on New Years Eve, it would be good to get it ticked off through tonight's heat.

Amazing Dream was very good through last season and from barrier five is certainly the one that they all need to watch out for.
