Strong chances in Sires Stakes final
With three runners in-form runners in today's Sires Stakes final at Addington, we hold a strong hand. Above N Beyond and Down To The Bone are drawn to get nice runs on the markers, while Mighty Looee has a tougher task having to come out of barrier six.
Above N Beyond has come back in super form as a three year old and his runs leading into today's big Group One suggest that he has a good chance in the race. From barrier one, John has choices as to whether to stay in front, or to take a sit on the markers. Either way he looks set to get his chance today. He had a quiet run at the trials last week at Addington and John has been happy with his campaign.
"If he can reproduce his heat win, then we are going to be competitive again here."
Drawn to follow the stablemate is Down To The Bone. He was massive in defeat last week at Kaikoura. After missing the start, he went around to sit in the breeze for the last lap of the race and only went down by slim margins in running third to Virgil.
"That was a good learning experience for him at Kaikoura and he will be better for the run."
"I don't quite know where he will end up in the running but he should get a soft run on the markers somewhere giving him his chance."
Our other runner today is Mighty Looee, which journeys south from the Pukekohe base. He has been consistent in all his starts this time in, but the draw does make things more difficult.
"It's one of those really awkward draws to be honest."
"Ross will have to make the call off the gate."
"The problem is that if you go back in these sort of races, it can make it really difficult to get into it."
The Sires Stakes is another race that has a very even look to it this year. With six runners in the race, the All Stars barn hold a strong hand, with One Change, Flying Even Bettor and Italian Lad prominent amongst their chances.
All the very best of luck to the drivers and connections in today's big go.
