Big day ahead for Dexter with TVG Championship Day at the Meadowlands.

Big day ahead for Dexter with TVG Championship Day at the Meadowlands.

In what has already been a massive year for Dexter, he will again compete at the very highest levels in North American Harness Racing at the Meadowlands this evening on TVG Championship night. With quality fields and big stakes on offer, Dexter has the chance to add to an already impressive first full year in North America.

The feature races start with the TVG Trotting Mares final, Race Two for $175,000 US. In what is a small, but select field of trotting mares, Atlanta will be short-priced favourite after an impressive victory in last week's lead up. Dexter will drive Darling Mearas, which comes from barrier five in the five horse field.

"She was really good in her Breeders Crown elimination and then I'm not really sure what happened to her in the final after she got well back," said Dexter.

"This is her last race tonight and if she anywhere near her best, then she has to have a very good chance."

Darling Mearas is on the third line of betting at 7-2, with Atlanta a dominating 6-5 favourite.

Amigo Volo will look to add to his already impressive formline in Race Five, the Valley Victory final for the two year old trotting colts and geldings.

He is in tremendous form and followed up his Breeders Crown win, with another big win in the Matron Final at Dover a fortnight ago.

"I wouldn't have minded drawing a little bit wider with him, but he has been pretty good off the gate recently."

"He is a super trotter and has got to be a big chance again."

Dexter saw Ready For Moni and El Ideal as his two biggest threats in the $505,050 US contest.

Race Six is the Goldsmith Maid final for the two year old fillies worth $475,100. Dexter combines here with Queen Of The Hill for Per Engblom.

This is a really good pick-up drive for Dexter and as a 9-2 chance in the race, she is given a big chance. Toughest to beat here are Senorita Rita and Sister Sledge.

Bettor's Wish contests the TVG Open Championship final Race Eight. After a stellar three year old season where he has been oh so consistent throughout, he has been given his chance to match spurs with the best open class pacers. Dexter is excited by the challenge of taking on the likes of American History and Mcwicked and hopes to pull off a result last achieved by the great Niatross. The race runs for $350,000 US and is sure to be a big highlight of the day.

One race on and Dexter drives the Linda Toscano trained Baby Your The Best in the Three Diamonds final for the two year old fillies for $411,000 US. She comes off a tough draw, drawn out in barrier seven and this is probably reflected in her 15-1 early quote. The toughest to beat will undoubtedly be Lyons Sentinel for the "Bionic Man" Tim Tetrick.

Race Ten may well be the race of the night, as the great trotting mare Manchego takes on the boys in the TVG open final for $350,000 US. What a season it has been for this mare with a Breeders Crown win and two world records, part of an impressive haul in the last two months. Should she win tonight then connections may well look further afield longer term with a race such as the Elitloppet definitely a consideration. Her duel with Six Pack - to be retired after tonight's race - and top three year old Gimpanzee should be quite a spectacle.

The final feature on the night is the TVG Final for the pacing mares for $175,000 US. Here Dexter combines with Kissin In The Sand.

"She was really good at Dover behind Shartin and I did like her."

"This is a really good field though with Shartin there, while Warrawee Ubeaut and Caviart Ali are both top horses, if they can turnaround there poor last start efforts."

Put simply, this is a massive night for harness racing on a track that Dexter has declared his favourite to drive on. In the run of form that he is in presently, he carries great momentum into the evening and has a number many chances for success. We wish him all the very best.
