Classie Brigade looking to produce his best two mile form in Cup
An unlucky third in the New Zealand Cup last month, Classie Brigade will be looking to replicate that form when he takes on a very strong All Stars contingent at Alexandra Park this evening. After little luck in his inter-dominion campaign, he will be looking to use his best manners early on to take a forward spot and for the cup to be a true run staying test.
Robert and John had high hopes for a very good inter-dom campaign with Classie Brigade, after some stellar runs at Addington over Cup Week. However, they were dealt a dud hand with the draws througout the series and eventually missed a spot in the final. Again coming off a poor draw, Classie Brigade prouduced a very good performance in the consolation, only going down late to Another Masterpiece.
This evening, Classie Brigade draws barrier six from the stand. With four of the All Stars contingent drawn inside him, John will no doubt be looking to step the Bettor's Delight 7yo early to land on the pace, something that seems so vital in racing at Alexandra Park at present.
While given little hope by the bookies and rated a $51 chance on the fixed odds markets, he has enough credentials over the two mile trip to not be left out of calculations. A third in the New Zealand Cup and the second fastest two miles of all-time when winning the Invercargill Cup, are proof that he is a dour stayer.
With no Ultimate Sniper in the picture for this race, it does really open the race up, but there is still plenty of strength in the All Stars arsenal. Self Assured, The Fixer and Cruz Bromac are all well drawn and are racing superbly. They will dominate the markets.
Best of luck Robert, John and connections. Here's hoping "Classie" gets his chance and does you proud once again.
