It has been a nice two days up in Nelson and while there was no winning joy today, the weekend has been a success. The winning run of Soundslikeart (pictured after winning at Motukarara) on Friday, backed up by a nice third today, probably marked her as our star performer of the weekend.
Day One - Friday
We had the six runners that went around on Friday, with two of these, Live Sport and Soundslikeart winning runs.
Live Sport was a good maiden winner after trailling. A Sportswriter three year old filly, she managed to secure the back of hotpot Melody's Mischief throughout and was much too strong over the closing stages after securing that perfect run.

The other winner on Friday came in the last of the day. The Yabby Dam Farms owned Soundslikeart, backed up a good win at Motukarara, with another good win after coming from off the pace. She was much too strong over the closing stages, running out a one length winner in 2.57.5 for the 2400m. She appears to be really coming to it now.

Stars Tonight was a good run for third in the cup over the 3000m after being obliged to do work wide. The race was won by Kendra for the Hope's, driven by ace reinsman Blair Orange. Hayden's Meddle produced a solid run in the cup, making good groud on the inner. The 20m handicap was significant on the day.
He's Aflyin was a solid run for 4th early in the day on debut, while One Majic Kenny blew his chances early in the feature trot by breaking, making good ground to be beaten just six lengths.
Day Two - Sunday
He's Aflyin was our first runner on the day showing some good improvement on his first day run, to be narrowly beaten into second by Kenya. After trailling three back the inner, John was off and challenging before the turn. Looking to be battling at the 100m, He's Aflyin fought strongly over the closing stages to be only beaten a half neck. John was hopeful that this trip would be a good educator for He's Aflyin and he should have derived plenty of benefit from today's run.
One Majic Kenny was away safely but slowly in today's feature trot. In what turned out to be a sternly run affair, he was always well back, but made ground strongly through runners in the straight to be beaten eight lengths. The race was won impressively by the three year old Midnight Dash that managed to gun down open class trotter Great Things Happen late in the race.
Hayden's Meddle was our sole runner in the day's feature over the mile. Well back throughout, he made a big run wide turning in, peaking on his effort late in the race to be beaten just over three lengths. The race was won impressively by Bringitonhome, saved for one run by Robbie Close. It closed powerfully once clear, to race away for victory in a smart 1.52.2.
The final race of the two-day meet was over the mile trip. There was plenty of pace from the outset. Live Sport raced handy, parked then in the one-one, while Soundslikeart was again saved for one run after racing four back the outer. Live Sport staked a claim three out at the 200m, before the rise in class began to tell. Soundlikeart followed eventual winner Glenledi Chief, storming home widest of all to run third, beaten under a length. The mile was run in 1.54.0.
