John's thoughts on Blenheim Day One and Two

John's thoughts on Blenheim Day One and Two

John was very happy with the two wins on Day One at Blenheim. He looks at the runs from Friday and to today's action, including the cup.

Blenheim – Day One

Madam Sass

"Super pleased with her run. It was a big field and on the grass and to be fair I was just hoping that she would trot the trip. We got a good trip and she never missed a beat. She rounded them up very easily. I was stoked for Nigel and Brenda and all the syndicate."

He’s Aflyin

"An ok run for him. We did a bit of work early, but so did some of them that finished in front of us. He is still a work in progress."

Hayden’s Meddle and Stars Tonight

"Stars Tonight produced his usual honest run. He had a bit of ground to make up at the 400m, then rounded them up pretty easily. He almost got to the front a bit too soon. Another nice win from him. Hayden’s Meddle blew the start and that was it for him."

Cheddar Valley and Anamajor

"Cheddar Valley was a big run to get as close as what he did. He broke briefly on the bend out of the straight and didn’t need to. It is hard chasing from the unruly and from where we ended up. Happy with his run. Anamajor got the perfect run for Tim and ran on well. She had her chance, but has gone another good race."

Day Two – Sunday

Race Two – He’s Aflyin

"This looks a slightly easier than the first day, but the wide second line draw won’t help. He will need some luck from there but if we get onto the back of the right one, he can run in the money."

Race Six – Madam Sass

"The first day run was really good, but this is a huge step up in class for her. We will be looking to get around with her trotting all the way again and if we can pick up a slice of it in this company, that will be a bonus."

Race Seven – Anamajor and Cheddar Valley

"Anamajor is drawn well enough here and has the gatespeed to take a forward position early. She is at least a place hope. Cheddar Valley is in the same position as the first day. A really tough ask from the unruly over the 1850m trip. He will be finishing strongly and is a great chance to run in the money again."

Race Eight – Stars Tonight and Hayden’s Meddle

"Stars Tonight is well drawn and with no rehandicap from the first day, does look very well placed. He is such an honest horse and will certainly give his best. He looks very hard to beat again. Hayden’s Meddle blew it on day one, but is much better than that. His Nelson runs had plenty of merit and if he can step on equal terms with them here is definitely a blowout shot."
