Soundslikeart completes perfect weekend for Yabby Dam Racing

Four year old Art Major mare Soundslikeart has done a great job since coming to New Zealand and was at her best today, registering her first Addington victory. Appearing in a lot of trouble following a fading runner at the 500m, she stormed home up the pylons once the gap appeared, bettering favourite Woman In Gold right on the line.

The winner of two of her previous twelve starts since crossing the Tasman, Soundslikeart has shown a punishing finishing burst when held up for one run. Today she was drawn one on the second line and enjoyed what appeared a good run three back the markers. However, things took a turn for the worse for the mare and driver Gavin Smith as the trailling runner immediately in front of them Star Paige, started to tire at the 500m. Turning in, Soundslikeart was full of running, but five lengths of the leaders. It was not until the 150m that Gav was able to find a run on the inside of Miss Daytona and the response was immediate. Utilisng her high speed, she charged up the inside gaining a winning adavantage just short of the line.

Today's win takes her stake-earnings for the season to over $21,000, just short of $40,000 for her career. It continues a very good run that Gavin has as a catch driver with stable runners.

Probably just as good a run in the race was that of the stablemate Anamajor. Taken back from her wide draw, she was back last down the backstraight the last time, with driver Tim Williams electing to take shortcuts and follow Soundslikeart home. Back near last on the turn, Tim eased off the pylons, looking for a run. Not clear until the 100m, she came with a great run, storming into third out wide. A winning turn is imminent for her also.

Two year old filly Shanika made an ansolute mess of things first up last week, but was on much better behaviour today, running third in the Group Three Leonard Memorial. Driven today by Tim Williams, she was good off the gate and secured the perfect trail behind hotpot Town Echo and Matt Anderson. Looking the major threat to the favourite turning in, Shanika put in a couple of rough strides at the 150m, costing her a little bit of ground, before getting home stongly over the last 50m beaten a neck and head into third behind Town Echo and Sweet Lizzie. She looks a filly that will only continue improving.

A race later was the day's feature the Cheviot Cup. In what turned out to be a true staying test, with a stern pace set up front by pacemaker Southerly Change, it was a fellow front marker Burnham Boy that got the victory after coming too strongly up the passing lane after trailling throughout. Jay Tee Tyron positioned four back the outside throughout came home impressively to run second, beaten just three quarters of a length, while backmarker Stars Tonight was definitely the run of the race, flying into the action late for 4th, beaten just 1.7 lengths, after giving the leaders all of ten lengths at the 400m. His time of 3.14.3 in running 4th was a great effort.

Good runs by both Jay Tee Tyron (2nd) and Stars Tonight (4th) in today's Cheviot Cup.

Soundlikeart's win today was the fifth for the weekend for Robert as a trainer and sees him take a one win lead at the top of the premiership table, with 64 wins already for the season.
