  • New Zealand Cup plans over for Captain Dolmio
    A start in this year's New Zealand Cup is off the table for Captain Dolmio. His plans for November's big go have been derailed with an injury to a back fetlock, his Woodend trainer John Dunn confirmed today.

    The latest acquisition for the Westview syndications is two year old filly Flashazz. Picked out by Ray Hansen at this year's yearling sales and then given the tick of approval by Robert, John and Sam the vet, Flashazz (stable name Bro) is the second foal out of the well performed racemare and Harness Jewels winner Pembrook's Delight.

    John is both excited and optimistic about the three year olds in the stable as they head towards their spring campaigns. Alta Maestro remains with Robert in the north, while John has Tuapeka Trick, Henry Hubert and The Brooklyn Brawler on track from his Woodend base.

  • Bite The Bullet digs tough to win Kurow Cup
    Bite The Bullet took another step towards the better classes today at Oamaru, with a tough victory in the Kurow Cup. Able to assume the lead early in the race, he staved off a mid-race challenge from the favourite James Dean and dictated terms thereafter. He had enough in the tank over the last 100m to hold off the fast late finisher in New Years Jay.
