After a quieter period over the last few weeks, a big team at Wednesday's Rangiora trials indicated that is all about to change. It was great to see some old faces back and getting ready to race, including Franco Cristiano (in picture) as well as the new crop of stars.

  • There has never been any doubting of the motor Kotare Yolande possesses. The question has been how long before the manners match up with the motor. Today at Geraldine, she put on an impeccable performance to win like a very good filly.

  • The stable look set to dominate on day one at Nelson
The Nelson/Marlborough circuit is invariably a happy hunting ground for Robert and John and this year looks to be no different. Driving pre-post favourites in most races today, John will be looking to continue a marvellous run over the holiday period.

  • Matt on the board with first training win of the season
Woodend Beach reinsman Matt Anderson must have been learning a few tips off the boss John Dunn recently based on his driving at Rangiora yesterday. With two wins and a close up second it could be described as a really good day at the office. That day was even more impressive though considering that one of Matt's driving wins Linton Shard, is also a horse that he trains.

  • It was a case of 1, 2 and 3 at Rangiora.
We only had the three runners go around at Rangiora yesterday and with a win and two placings, it was close to the perfect day. The sole win of the day came with the impressive Kotare Costa in the maiden.

  • Its a big day for our three year olds
It is Auckland Cup day at Alexandra Park and a great field as always is assembled for that event. There are no stable runners though in this year's field. Instead the focus will be on the three year old features - for the fillies - with Chevron Supreme and Nakuru both good chances and for the colts and geldings - with Heisenberg well drawn.

  • You just knew that the weather was going to come right in time for the Motukarara Xmas meeting. A day of up to 30 degrees produced a huge crowd as per normal and they were treated to some fantastic grass track racing. Wins to Anamajor and Kotare Cullen continued a good run of late for the stable.

  • Three year old filly Anamajor is one of the most promising types in the stable at present and footed it with some of the best fillies in the land last season as a two year old. Her second at Addington last Friday behind one of those fillies Kendra, indicated that she is ready to notch up the first win of her career.

  • Kotare Cullen produces big run to win cup
At just her second stand start and second start in the South Island, Kotare Cullen showed the ability that marked her one of the better fillies in the country last season in winning today's Motukarara Cup. She had to be brave to do so, holding out the stablemate Zadaka, that finished resolutely from the back to be denied victory by a head.

It may not be a large field size wise, but this year's Ashburton Cup field looks one of the more even line-ups seen for a few years. Stable runners Alta Maestro and Letspendanitetogetha look two of the better chances in the race after strong performances at their last start.

  • It's 1,2,3 for our J.R.D.
Despite having a quieter run by his own high standards of late, there was no stopping John at Ashburton this afternoon with a personal hat-trick, that also doubled as a stable hat-trick.
