    While this year's Easter Cup may be a small field numerically, you cannot fault the class of those involved in this year's contest. While the Purdon/Rasmussen trained Heaven Rocks will start a dominating favourite in the race, a strong case can be made for most other runners in the race with Captain Dolmio and Franco Nelson at the forefront of those discussions.

    It is the second premier meeting of the autumn following up an unbelievable night of racing last week. The stable are well represented with Billy Badger in the Group One New Zealand Derby and The Brooklyn Brawler in the Group Two Welcome Stakes for the two year olds.

  • Franco Nelson claims 2600m NZ record in resuming run
    Even though he had performed well in a trial last week, driver John Dunn felt that Franco Nelson was up against it first up especially from his 45m handicap. However, after a brilliant beginning in which Franco Nelson quickly negated his handicap, his winning chances soared and eventually he went on for a win in NZ record time.

  • Alta Maestro produces New Zealand record in taking Sires Stakes heat
    He had looked the real deal in his first two wins, but a Young Guns third gave some hope to his rivals tonight. However, it was a totally dominant Alta Maestro tonight as he cruised to an emphatic win by four and a quarter lengths in a New Zealand record time of 1.59.9 for a two year old colt or gelding.

  • The Brooklyn Brawler provides winning tonic for Alan Neumann
    He would much rather have been down at Wyndham yesterday, cheering home The Brooklyn Brawler, but instead part-owner Alan Neumann was sitting in hospital in Auckland with son Vinnie watching the race on the I Pad. But if ever Alan wanted a bit of a pick me up, then his two year colt must have known, as he bloused away a good field in the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes.

  • The Westview Super Seventeen syndicate is a totally new iniative this season for Nigel Armstrong. The "Super" Seventeen is so named because this syndicate bought three lots purchased at last years sales, all well bred and with the goal of racing as two year olds. Tuapeka Trick is one of these and this afternoon at Wyndham will chase group race success for his big band of owners.

    On a night where driver John Dunn was the human star of the show, Captain Dolmio, the wee fella that hails from the deep south took another big step forward in what is now looking a very serious race career.
